Early Career and Rise to Stardom
Kawhi Anthony Leonard (born June 29, 1991) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Leonard was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NBA draft and was later traded to the San Antonio Spurs.
Leonard quickly established himself as a defensive force in the NBA, earning All-Defensive Team honors in each of his first five seasons with the Spurs. He also developed into a capable offensive player, averaging over 20 points per game in each of his last four seasons in San Antonio.
In 2014, Leonard led the Spurs to their fifth NBA championship, earning NBA Finals MVP honors. He was named an All-Star for the first time in 2016 and has since been named to the All-Star team three more times.
Move to the Los Angeles Clippers
In July 2019, Leonard signed with the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent. He helped the Clippers reach the Western Conference Finals in his first season with the team. In 2021, Leonard led the Clippers to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011.
Leonard is widely considered one of the best players in the NBA. He has been named to the All-NBA Team four times and has been named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice.
