Breaking: German Government Condemns Russian Annexation of Ukrainian Regions

Berlin Denounces Kremlin's "Illegal and Unjustified" Actions

Europe and Allies to Discuss Coordinated Response

The German government has strongly condemned Russia's annexation of four partially occupied Ukrainian regions, describing the move as an "illegal and unjustified" violation of international law. Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the actions "seriously undermine" peace and security in Europe.

Moscow claimed to have annexed the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia after referendums it organized amid ongoing fighting. Ukraine and the West dismiss these referendums as a "sham" and illegal.

The European Union and its allies are expected to discuss a coordinated response to Russia's actions. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc would impose "severe and biting" sanctions on Russia and provide additional support to Ukraine.

The United States condemned Russia's annexation as "an affront to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity." President Joe Biden said his administration would continue to support Ukraine with all necessary means.
